Rowan Avery Shreiner Medical Expense Fund - to cover Rowan's medical expenses and related expenses not covered by insurance.

Precious Rowan was born on Friday, July 6, 2012. He is an absolutely wonderful, sweet little boy. On Saturday, July 7, 2012 his parents and nurses noticed large blisters on his hands and feet. He also has blisters in and around his mouth.

Rowan was diagnosed with Epidermolysis Bullosa, a genetic skin disorder which causes the skin to blister as a result of very mild injury. There is no cure for this condition but with proper care and precaution, it can be managed and Rowan can have a happy, full life.

On Saturday, Rowan was airlifted to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he is receiving excellent care. His parents, Meghan and Derek, are now facing unexpected expenses related to his medical care as well as the high costs of food and lodging in the Philadelphia area (they live in the Lancaster area) so they can be close to their son during this time.

Rowan is finally home! On July 11, Meghan and Derek brought their precious little boy home from CHOP. The family is adjusting to having a new little one in the house as well as learning how to best care for Rowan's special needs.

Simple, everyday activities that many of us take for granted are quite different in the Shreiner household. Rowan's parents have become well-versed in caring for and dressing Rowan's blisters and wounds. They have a visiting nurse who comes periodically to observe Rowan's progress and also teach Derek and Meghan how to best meet his needs.

Some of the challenges they face:

They are unable to use some of the things they purchased to prepare for Rowan; for example, the only diapers his skin is able to tolerate are Pampers Swaddlers.

Not knowing what the future holds for Rowan's health/condition in the long-run

Unexpected life changes

Please help Rowan and the Shreiner family with some of their unanticipated expenses. Let's do our part to take away some of their financial stress so they can continue to focus on loving and caring for their son!
