Do you breathe without difficulty? Able to get in & out of a car with ease? Ever even think about it?

Are you able to breathe? A simple act of breathing is dimished by myotonic muscular dystrophy. Paul, 45 has lost 80% of his lung capacity in his left lung and 25% in his right. This disease is robbing him of muscle. Have you ever watched the MDA Telethon and wonder what this disease is about? My sons Paul 45 and Louis 37, have myotonic muscular dystrophy. This disease robs a child of muscle. We require muscle to move, brush our teeth, lift a glass, lift a fork, sign your name, think of anything you do automatically today and know Paul can not do these simple movements we all take for granted. Going to the bathroom requires assistance.  A simple thing as putting on your shoes can no longer be accomplished. Our minivan is a 1997 Plymouth Voyager. It is starting to go. Paul requires an equipped van so his electric power wheelchair can go in the van for trips to the doctors, dentists, shopping and any activity possible. I can no longer lift the manual wheelchairs. This is an enormous task. Asking for help is not my nature and it took a lot for me to do this. The 35,000 buys a used van which will be about 5 years old. During the summer months here (it gets above 105 to 115) they are stuck indoors and become depressed. If we could easily go to stores and doctor appts (and there are many) this would be a blessing. Paul just received a pacemaker to keep the heart muscle going properly. If we do not reach the goal, the monies will be donated to MDA. With love from Paul & Lou's Mom
