I am Karson Floyd's mom and I am raising money to purchase an iPad for Karson to help him learn Thanks for your support!

Dear Friends!

Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the United States. It affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in every 54 boys, according to the Autism Speaks, the world’s largest autism advocacy organization. With these kind of numbers, it means that every 1 in 88 children you see while out in town or at the grocery store, probably has autism. Autism has no cure and no medical detection.

My son, Karson M. Floyd, was diagnosed with severe autism on December 16, 2011 at the age of 10 after years of wrong diagnoses. As a mother, I do my best to provide for my children and to help them in any way I can. But this is something that takes more than my love and attention. Karson’s physician prescribed a machine called the DynaVox. The DynaVox is an AAC device that is designed to meet the needs of children with autism. It uses exclusive language framework to help children with language and literacy development, social interaction and participation in school, and home and community settings. Unfortunately, the Dynavox costs $7,665 and insurance will only cover half. After speaking his physician again, an alternative cost-effective to the DynaVox is an iPad.

The iPad is more affordable and accessible device that could really help Karson. With the many apps that are on it, it would help him to communicate with not only me, but his sister as well. The benefits to this tablet do not stop there. It would help him with his school work, as recommended by his teachers, and with potty training. He is relying on Pull-Ups to get him through the day and night, but there are apps made for the iPad that help. The benefits really are limitless. The helping of his comprehension and vocabulary skills, and his sensory skills. It would make it a huge impact on his life to be able to have and use an iPad while learning and having fun.

I am asking for your help in providing an iPad to Karson, to help him fight autism and work towards becoming a fully functioning member of society. Any donations would be greatly accepted and appreciated. If documentation is needed concerning his diagnosis, please let me know and I will send it to you asap.

I appreciate your time and cannot tell you have much this means to me and my family. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing the difference kindness can make for Karson. Thank you.

This letter was written, on my behalf. I want you all to know how much I appreciate the help we've received so far and we'll appreciate any help coming in the future!

Karon was diagnosed with severe ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) on December 16, 2011. This was after many years of different and very WRONG diagnoses, he was 9 years old when the doctors finally figured out what the problem was. As such, we have lost many precious years of assistance that he could have been receiving the help that he needed and his communication skills are low. He also has extreme sensory issues and his comprehension is that of a 3 or 4 year old. He is not toilet trained and relies on Pull-Ups during the day and night.

With that being said, Karson is a smart boy who loves to learn. He loves computers and communicates very well on my laptop but since it is three years old and vital to my studies (I am a student at University of Phoenix and my laptop IS my classroom) I cannot share as I would like to. Additionally, the iPad has apps that will help him with skills that he needs that I cannot reach him to teach. It will also help with his sensory issues and help him to communicate with his sisters and me. Any help you can give would be appreciated greatly! Thank you so much and God Bless!
