The family and friends of Lauren Allen are uniting to raise money to help the Allen family pay for her medical treatments.

On November 21, 2001, Lauren was born with a heart defect that required a tiny baby to have a transplant at only 6 weeks of her delicate life. At a very young age, Lauren showed the will power to live and the transplant was successful. Praise God!!

Lauren has since endured nearly 10 years of medical interventions caused mostly by immune suppressing drugs critical to her survival. Medical interventions are very puzzling because of her heart transplant and not always easily identified and in turn can be very costly.

Most recently, Lauren went under infusion treatments for Epidermolysis Bullosa Acquisita - autoimmune disease that attacks the skin by creating very large blisters. Although the doctors are not sure of the cause of her newest ailment, Pancolitis, they think the infusions may have caused this very painful chronic inflammatory disease of the colon. It is very painful, hard to treat, and the patient can lose a large amount of weight because of the lack of appetite and dehydration issues.

Lauren has been in the hospital most recently since October 3 going through rounds and rounds of tests. She is slowly improving, but not sure how much longer she will be in the hospital and with the ongoing need for medical attention, this will be quite a toll on Lauren and her family, emotionally and financially.

Lauren's parents have a meager income and this lengthy hospital stay will be very costly to the Allen family. Having these medical bills will be hard to pay for in full without the help of others. She has full insurance, but insurance doesn't cover all medical bills.

You ask what can I do?? Well you can give your prayers to Lauren and the Allen family; you can give words of encouragement, and make donations to the website set up for Lauren Allen. All and any is very appreciated from this humble and loving family.

We very much appreciate your support, love and prayers!

In Christ,
Robbie Bingham Mansfield, Lauren Allen's Aunt

Lauren came home from the hospital on October 28. She has been on a very strong dose of steroids to help heal the extremely painful ulcers in her colon and large intestine. She goes back November 11 for a repeat colonoscopy to check the progress of the steroids. She has been in less pain and is eating very well.

Although it is great that she is healing, Lauren is now back where she started-how to control her EBA. When the steroids are stopped, her EBA will appear again and at this moment it is not known how it will be treated. This means more trips to the doctor and more medical bills. When the new year starts, that also means the start of a new deductible. Please help if you can; she really does enjoy reading the hugs that are sent her way.
