Friends and family uniting to assist Ellyn Kearney in staying independent by raising funds to train her third service dog.

Independent. If I had to choose a single word to describe my friend Ellyn, that would be it. One way she has furthered her independence over the past twenty years is with the assistance of a service dog. Not only have they offered her companionship, they have opened doors for her - both literally and figuratively - and retrieved things from the floor, the fridge and anywhere else, they have given her a push when she has needed it, they have called for help when necessary, they have even offered protection from armed intruders! These amazing dogs, Abel and Sally, have allowed Ellyn to live the life she chooses without fear or limitations.

Many of you know that Sally, Ellyn's second service dog, died in January. She was diagnosed with advanced cancer and was gone within two weeks. Sally passed away with Ellyn's arms around her; only death could separate them. This was a very dark, sad time and Sally is still very missed.

Some of you know that since then, Ellyn got a new puppy and has invested seven months and a great deal of money in raising and training Marble, who was then abused by an unscrupulous trainer. Due to this, Marble required behavioral therapy, which Ellyn provided, before being placed with a loving new family. The trainer has yet to be held accountable as we have not been able to locate him in order to serve him with legal paperwork. This is something that will take some time and investigation, but will not be forgotten!

Now Dexter has come on the scene, a ray of sunshine in purebred yellow Labrador form, who is ready and eager to learn how to help Ellyn! He comes straight from a breeder and is one year old, the perfect age for service dog training. Unfortunately, Ellyn's finances have been wiped out by the above situation. She is able to teach Dexter some things on her own, but really needs a professional to instill the basics of obedience and retrieving in him. The goal is to raise the funding required to properly train Dexter to be Ellyn's ambassador of independence for the next decade or more. Please help in any way that you can, including prayers for Dexter's adjustment to training and Ellyn's safety and independence in the mean time.

Though times are tough for everyone right now, every gift is gratefully appreciated and I know each giver will receive a blessing in return!
P.S. - Ellyn has given me access to her email list, therefore, I do not know all of your relationships to her; please ignore this if unwanted.
