Calder has passed away, please keep his family in your prayers.

It is with great sadness that I have to say Calder passed away tonight in his Mommy and Daddy's arms. He will be greatly missed and we now have a beautiful angel watching over us. Thank you for all of your prayers, love and support.

Family and Friends of Calder

On October 3, 2011 our friends Zac and Becky Seabrooke welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Calder Seabrooke into the world. Everything was perfect until shortly after birth the Drs. determined their was something very seriously wrong with Calder's health, devastating Calder's parents.

Here is Calder story, written by his loving mother Becky Seabrooke.

On October, 3rd 2011 at 11:01 p.m. a beautiful baby named Calder entered this world. Shortly after Calder was born Doctors knew something serious was going on with Calder's health. He was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). We found out that our sweet boy had a heart attack in the womb and may have also lost blood supply in the birth canal for a short period of time.

By Wednesday Doctors decided that Calder needed one of the best hospitals in the US to manage his care because of how sick his heart was. Additionally, other important body systems began to deteriorate. On Wednesday Calder was beginning to show some stability and was able to be backed off of all the medications he was on and the supplemental oxygen. The hospital performed a 2D Echocardiogram to see how well his heart was pumping. (A 2D Echo is a ultrasound of the heart to see how efficiently the heart is pumping and to make sure the structures inside were alright.) We found out some really bad news... Calder's heart was only pumping at an efficiency in the low teens. The normal is 55% or greater. We were very lucky to have been accepted by the best neonatal cardiac transplant surgeon. He has been watching over Calder and had decided by Thursday that Calder needed help delivering oxygen to all of his vital organs so they placed him on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). Here is a link to how it works:
There is also a picture of a diagram posted to see.

It has been decided that Calder needs a heart transplant, so he was placed onto the list to receive one. Currently, the doctors and nurses are working very hard to try and support all of his vital organs and prevent further damage.

We need all the prayers you can give. Please bless baby Calder, us, and bless the hands of the doctors and nurses that care for him that they can do the best possible things for him.

Thank you all for this humbling support.

Zac and Becky are going through a nightmare right now but they are staying strong for their son. They have a long road ahead of them and Friends and Family would like to raise as much money is possible to help with Calder's care and Zac and Becky's finances while they are staying out of town to be close to Calder.
Any donation or prayers you can give would
be much appreciated. If you prefer to send a check, please make payable to Zac Seabrooke and mail to Christi Good 2325 SE 5th St. Des Moines, Iowa 50315 Please call me if you have any questions. Christi Good 641-275-7842

Update October 13, 2011

The Doctors have given an official diagnosis of Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Pulmonary Hypertension. He has been approved for the Berlin Heart which is an artificial heart that will sustain his life until a heart donor becomes available.

Message to Calder from Mommy on October 14, 2011

Calder, today you are 11 days old and I'm so incredibly in love with you. You are such a lil fighter and you are so strong!! Mommy went home for a few days to care for our doggies and to see the doctor for my two week check after the c-section. I miss your face and your lil fingers and toes and I can not wait to see you on Monday!! Stay strong and fight while I'm away...daddy is there and will come see you everyday!! We love you son!!

Update 10/18/2011

Calder was diagnosed with Psuedomonas Infection in his lungs, basically Pneumonia. The Berlin Heart was supposed to be done this week but will be delayed until the antibiotics heal Calder so he is well enough for the surgery.

You can tell by the messages from Mommy and Papa that they love Calder very much. He needs all of the help he can from friends, family and any other supporters who wish to donate to Calder's fund so he can get the care he needs to get better and come home!!

Thank you for all of your donations, kind words, thoughts and prayers.
