Help us keep our 2 year old Corgi Wally walking!

Wally is our 2 year old Welsh Corgi. My boyfriend and I rescued him 1 month ago from family who encounted circumstances that did not allow them to keep him any longer. They mentioned to us that when he was 1 he was hit by a car which broke his shoulder, and because of this he walks with a limp. When we got him home we noticed that he always walked with a limp, it would become more pronounced after a walk or playing for a few minutes. We didn't realize how badly he was injured until we took him in to see our vet and she took some xrays to see what his shoulder looked like. Because his shoulder injury was not propertly addressed his shoulder healed incorrectly which has caused degenerative arthritis in his left shoulder. Due to his arthritis Wally cannot even walk to the park or run around our back yard without limping. He has chronic pain and his shoulder will only continue to deteriorate without surgery to correct his condition. We are trying to raise as much money as we can to help afford his surgery and after care. Wally has become part of our family and we can't stand the thought that he is in pain and cannot run and play like other dogs his age. We want to give him the best life possible and with your help we can! This surgery will be life changing for him and stop his chronic pain. Please help us keep Wally walking!

Dear Donor-
Thank you so much for supporting Wally in his fight to become healthy and pain-free again. We wanted to share an important update on his condition and how his planned surgical procedure is progressing.

Wally’s original prescribed surgical treatment is called Arthrodesis of the shoulder which essentially removes his shoulder joint and mechanically fuses his shoulder bone to his arm bone, thus eliminating the joint and cartilage as well as the associated pain. This rare and expensive surgical procedure is thought to be highly successful, but has its downfalls including limited mobility and an intensive recovery. Our vet and recommended surgical specialists both agreed this would be his only treatment given the status of his condition.

We recently took Wally in for one of our scheduled pre-surgery consultations and learned some exciting yet complicated news. Since our earlier consultations, inclusion of medical treatments, physical dog therapy, and further physical examinations, the surgical specialist has recommended a postponement to his Arthrodesis surgery.

Wally’s pre-surgery and less invasive medical treatments have allowed him to lessen his limp and pain. Therefore, in lieu of immediate shoulder surgery, the specialist has recommended a temporary continuance of Wally’s physical and medical treatments. Included in this treatment is rather costly medication including joint supplements and pain medication.

Wally will be periodically re-examined every few months to measure his progress and ensure proper treatments. If he is responding well, it’s possible he could continue some combination of non-surgical treatment for years to come before undertaking surgery. This news comes with mixed feelings because we are excited to hear about the surgical postponement, but now have to undertake the non-surgical treatments. Overall, we have found this news to be more positive than negative.

In light of this good news, we have decided to postpone fundraising for the originally planned surgical procedure. We were very moved by your donations and will keep updating Wally’s “Keep Wally Walking” campaign with recent information. If you would still like to leave your donation within Wally’s medical fund we will apply the donation towards his pre-surgical medical treatments on his path to pain-free corgi happiness. Thanks again for your support.
