The family and friends of Chelsea Nartker need help raising funds to cover the medical expenses not covered by insurance.

Chelsea Nartker a 17 year old senior in high school was diagnosed with viral and bacterial pneumonia in February of 2011. The infection was so bad that 3 courses of anti biotics could not kill it. Week 2 of the illness she started coughing up blood. After a month st vs hospital in Toledo discovered she had coughed so hard she had torn her esophagus. The bleeding and the infection irritated the stomach so badly that in march her body completely stopped accepting food. In early April she was transferred to nation wide childrens hospital where a feeding tube was placed. An nj tube which goes through the nose past the stomach into the intestines since the stomach does not accept food. after spending all of April in the hospital and undergoing hundreds of tests no answers were found. This hospital bill was 75,000$. She then returned home with the feeding tube to patiently await more tests.
In her time at home she became extremely dehydrated and lost lots of wait and was un able to maintain on her formula at the time. She returned to the hospital in june due to dehydrated and weight loss. She was also covered in bruises due to the dehydration and was also still vomiting blood. During this 2 week stay she was visited by hematology, rhumetology, the dentist, as well as a dermatologist and the g.I. Docs once again. All of which ran their own tests and signed off one by one un able to find an answer.
They then sent her home with no answers telling her to see a counselor to talk about her illness since it has now been months since she has been able to eat and told her to find a new g.I. Doctor because they were finished.
She returned home back at square one with no where to turn. Still with feeding tube and throwing up blood. Once home she then became dehydrated again and ended up back in childrens hospital in July weighing in at 94lbs still with no answers. This time she was admitted under gen med for nutritional purposes. After a 2 week stay of adjusting her feeds the doctors transferred her to osu hospital to await acceptance by a referring clinic in Wisconsin.
While at osu many referring programs were considered but all turned her down because she did not meet the criteria either not in the danger weight zone or not an eating disorder. The doctors hoped that if she could be retrained how to eat again then the feeding tube could be removed and the stomach would stop bleeding. But, it is still a possibility that the stomach will be unable to learn how to eat again.
We are now back at home patiently awaiting A referring program to accept or have an opening. Throughout this process I as her mother have lost my job and insurance due to taking to much time off to be with Chelsea. We Are currently living off of my husbands salary all 7 of us and on his insurance which does not currently cover her meds which are much needed to avoid further distraction of the esophagus as well as the company that shoots her formula. We are now running low on supplies and are unable to afford the prescriptions.
This has been a long drawn out journey that doesn't seem to be coming to an end anytime soon. Prayers and donations are much appreciated. Thank you to anyone who has read our story and would help out in any way possible.
