If you can give even $5, you will make a difference in Buduburam. Please help: your gift will be hand delivered on my next trip

Thirty five miles outside of Accra (capital city of Ghana), lies a community called Buduburam. The people that settled there are Liberians who fled civil war in the 1990s. This piece of land was given to the Liberian refugees by the Ghanaian Government through the initiatives of UNHCR. The camp was established when the first 70 refugees arrived and has now grown to a village level with a population of about 25,000. There is no running water in Buduburam: it can only be purchased in bottles. There are no free schools (and none that cater to Liberian culture / languages) and only one fee-based clinic that the poorest cannot afford.

If you can give anything--even US$5.00--you will make a difference in the lives of Buduburam residents. Generational Thinkers International (GTI), is a non-profit initiative initiated and directed by a Liberian refugee, Jordan Parker. His aim is to provide starter funds that catalyze income generating activities (IGAs) for single mothers (most of the female population) that will help them independently care for Buduburam children and other youth with dignity.

We urge you to take a look at the photos and stories of the 63 potential GTI beneficiairies and help us. If you so desire, you can indicate which refugee's goal you would like your gift to assist. Photos and descriptions of each potential beneficiary (26 / 63 added so far) can be found at:

If you are heading to Accra, let us know and Jordan will be happy to arrange your visit to Buduburam.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact Jordan Parker in Ghana ( or Lezlie Moriniere in US (
