This is the Mike Kelly Fund. The funds will be used for Mike's expenses during his recovery.

What a fantastic outpouring of love and support we had at the event, July 14th. There are estimates of over 500 people that joined together for fellowship, food, music and support for the Kelly Family. We raised nearly $14,000 that day!
The musical guests were so kind to show up and give wonderful performances, including Brenton Brown.
We all thank you so much for taking the time to come. The people that set up, cleaned, up cooked food, baked, sold t shirts, (which are still available), face painters and hair braiders, sound people, and overall support.

God has Blessed us all for the chance to be a part of this event. Donations will be taken until September 3rd on this website.

See video link of Brenton Brown to the left.

Mike's Story

Mike Kelly, among his many roles, is a drummer, but currently he cannot drum. This past January, a driver with a suspended license struck Mike and his daughter Brianna in a head-on collision. The accident happened just days before Mike was to begin a new job, a job he was so thankful to have after being unemployed for several months. He is now unfortunately still unemployed. However, the accident left Mike unable to work due to a broken hip as well as back and head trauma. Mike is still suffering from seizures. Then in the midst of medical tests, doctors found a tumor on Mike’s kidney, which is a cancer diagnosis, called renal cell carcinoma. His surgery is schedule for June 19th. As Mike has struggled with his health, his daughter has struggled as well. Brianna suffered a brain injury that has left her with severely painful and prolonged headaches. Mike’s wife Heather has been trying to keep the family afloat by juggling four different jobs, while the family debt keeps increasing.

Friends from Mike’s church have been inspired to rally around the whole Kelly family by reaching out to you and others to help, too. Mike was the drummer – and played bass, too – in the praise band at the United Methodist Church of Thousand Oaks. The joke has been that he plays both drums and bass, but not at the same time and, as Mike likes to say, “Luckily for all of you, I don’t sing!” All jokes aside, however, the hope is to get Mike back into the rhythm of music, but more importantly, back into the rhythm of a financially stable and healthy life.

Author Anne Lamott, in her best-selling novel Traveling Mercies, writes this of her church community, “When I was at the end of my rope, the people (in my church community) tied a knot in it for me and helped me hold on.” Mike’s church community invites you to help tie a knot for this family so that they can hold on to the hope of a life restored and a rhythm renewed.

Mike Kelly Fund

Friends and Family of Mike Kelly are working together to help raise funds to help the Kelly family with expenses that are piling up from unemployment, as well as back and kidney surgeries for Mike.

June 21st Update: Mike had surgery on his kidney on June 19th. They removed the tumor from his kidney successfully and he has 60% of the infected kidney remaining. The lab has confirmed that it was Stage 3 renal Cell Carcinoma, but they are 99% sure they got it all out and the margins are clear! Praise God that they were able to remove it completely without complications. More Good news: The owner of the car involved in the accident did have some insurance that may be applied to the the medical bills related to the accident. The bad news is that it will not cover the medical expenses related to Mike’s cancer treatment and surgery since they were not related to the car accident. Mike’s medical needs are now being covered by Medicaid, which will help, but will not be completely free. The family has been forced into a very difficult financial situation with Mike’s job loss and medical expenses. Insurance payments, as we all know, do not always come in a timely manner and do not always cover everything. It will take some time to sort through all this, so the finances we raise will help to provide a safety net to keep the family going. Thank you for your continued love and support for the Kelly Family.
