The family and friends of Mark Erkelens are uniting to raise money to help with his battle against bladder cancer. Please show your support!

Mark Erkelens was diagnosed with bladder cancer just a few months ago. Mark is a loving husband to Zoe, proud father of three teenagers and a business owner for over 15 years.

We don't know what the total expenses will be - We have created this page to help alleviate the stress on Mark and Zoe so that they can focus all of their energy and strength on winning this battle! The money donated will be used to pay for medical expenses and to help with daily living expenses while Mark and Zoe have to live off what income comes in. Mark has been on and off of work since Easter. Since Mark is the sole provider for the Erkelens family income has been irregular and unsteady.

Eighteen months ago Mark Erkelens saw a doctor regarding some concerns with his bladder. He was recommended to watch for kidney stones. His symptoms persisted on and off until early April 2012 when he made a trip to the ER for an ultrasound only to be told to continue to watch for kidney stones while they waited for the referral to the urologist.

In early June, Mark met with the urologist for an ultrasound which identified 3 tumors in his bladder. Surgery was scheduled for 2 weeks later at which point they found that there were actually 9 tumors. At the follow up appointment on July 25 Mark’s doctors confirmed he had high grade bladder cancer.

In August, Mark underwent two surgeries to remove his tumors. September 5th Mark saw the doctor to see if the cancer has spread, at that point the doctor determined that the cancer had not spread to the muscle and tissue so Mark would have to undergo an intensive 6 week course of chemotherapy directly into the bladder. Mark will be required to have regular checkups every 3 months for the next two years at which point he will need to have surgery to ensure the tumors are not back. If the tumors return Mark will continue with another course of chemotherapy.

Mark and his family are faced with a long journey ahead with many challenges.

Please keep Mark and his family in your thoughts and prayer! The Erkelens family needs all your support and prayers to stay strong through this battle.
