Supporting the organization known as Safer Futures of Portage County, Ohio.

We are Communication Studies students at Kent State University. We share a common interest in reaching out to this population in dire need and have set a goal to raise money to support these individuals and families. Our mission is to raise $1500.00 by the end of April 2012. All the money we raise will be used to support Safer Futures of Portage County, Ohio.

Safer Futures is a nonprofit organization that provides shelter, legal advocacy, and referrals to victims of domestic violence. In addition to providing these things, it is the mission of Safer Futures to lessen the scope of domestic violence in Portage County. With community outreach programs, they build awareness and teach communities about warning signs associated with domestic violence.

Safer Futures helps families to become reestablished and acquire freedom from their abusive situation. Part of starting over is obtaining very basic home essentials and personal needs. The money we raise toward our goal will be used to help safer futures provide these needs including bed linens, cleaning products, schools supplies, groceries, and so much more.

Most people consider domestic violence to be any abusive, threatening or violent behavior between a man and a woman. However, it also includes any violence in the home, including between adult children and other adult family members. While most instances of domestic violence are the acts of a man toward a woman, there are also instances of domestic violence that involve the acts of a woman toward a man.

Domestic violence affects everyone. It can happen anywhere to anyone of any race, religion, culture or economic status. Parents, their children, other family members, friends, and colleagues are all impacted by domestic violence. Domestic violence can occur in ANY intimate relationship, including same-sex relationships.

Domestic violence is dangerous. Too often, conflicts escalate into injury or death.
