Eye removal (enucleation) for Rosie!!

Rosie is my 16 week old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She was rescued by my family on December 31, 2010 because the family whose litter she belonged to could not find an owner for her because of her blind eye's appearance.

When I heard about Rosie, I knew I wanted her to join my family. I am a single mother of a 15 year old daughter. When my daughter and I met Rosie, there was no turning back! She is so sweet and super smart! She doesn't seem to notice her condition, since she has been blind since birth.

She has been going to the vet at least once per week to try to save her eye, but it hasn't gotten any better. Her vet recommended that we see a specialist. The specialist diagnosed her with very advance glaucoma and recommended immediate removal of her eye! They would remove the eye and sew her eyelid shut! :( That night, I did research and found that dogs who undergo this procedure become a little difficult to look at because the space that the eye is removed from is hollow so the sewn together eyelids become sunken. I saw so many pictures and it is so heartbreaking to see. I kept imagining my little girl with a sunken-eye, and it;s so sad because she is so beautiful.

I called the specialist the next day to see if there was anything else that could be done instead, and there is a more cosmetic procedure which preserves the musculature, shape, and the cornea of the eye. That is what brings me here. This procedure costs nearly $2,300, and my family cannot afford it at all. I am saving all I can, but at the rate I am able to save, it will be nearly six months before I could afford the surgery, and by that time her eye could burst! (according to the specialist)

Please help with whatever you can: $1 or more..

Thank you so much for reading to the end! ;)
