Donate to Martha Lauer's fundraising efforts for the Fordham University Global Outreach project she is leading to Ecuador in March 2012!

Dear friends and family,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page!

As most of you already know, I am in my last year at Fordham University in the Bronx, and I am so excited to be leading a Global Outreach project to Ecuador this spring break, March 11-18, 2012!

What is Global Outreach?

Global Outreach (GO!) is an organization at Fordham that gives students the opportunity to better understand social, economic, political, and environmental injustices by sending the volunteers to live, work, and learn in oftentimes poor and marginalized communities both nationally and internationally. GO! provides the opportunity for students to connect and learn from individuals, giving students a greater understanding of the issues plaguing our global society. GO! runs twenty-eight projects a year, and within each trip, the team works together to fundraise the cost of the trip.

Why it's important to me!

My sophomore year at Fordham, I was lucky enough to participate as a team member on the GO Ecuador project. The individuals I met in the community we lived in, the experiences I had, had an incredible impact on me and have stuck with me even after leaving Ecuador. Since then, I have been hoping to have the opportunity to the lead the project, and feel incredibly blessed to be given the opportunity this year!

After interviewing students and chaperones, I assembled a group of twelve wonderful team members that I will meet with weekly throughout the entire year, making sure that we are prepared for our experience in Ecuador.
For any more information you'd like to know:

Now, what will we exactly be doing in Ecuador?

Being! My project focuses on cultural immersion, which includes being, rather than doing -- we will be learning from the community we'll live in.
The organization we work with, Rostro de Cristo, brings volunteer groups from the U.S. to stay with them throughout the year. They bring us to neighbor visits, schools, and hospitals. We'll go to the market and cook and clean with the community.
Rostro de Cristo focuses on living in solidarity with the poor. Instead of acting for the poor, it is important to act with them. Our group will engage with the community to learn their stories.
We’ll participate in reflection and dialogue with our team, the community, and the yearlong volunteer from Rostro de Cristo accompanying our team.
After we come back from Ecuador, we’ll have team meetings to process and discuss our experience. We’ll hold an educational event to share our experiences with the rest of the Fordham community.

How your donation will help

As a leader, I am responsible for fundraising $1200 total for my individual cost to go on the project. With so many GO projects at Fordham, it is difficult to gain donations to cover this cost from fellow students and the community alone. Individual donations from family and friends almost 90% of fundraising efforts. I need your support to fundraise money for me to go to Ecuador!

How can you help?

Give anything! -help me reach my first target goal of $600
$85 will sponsor me for a half a day in Ecuador
