Please help assist with medical/daily living expenses to alleviate the financial burden. Help keep Matthew happy and without pain.

Matthew was diagnosed at age 2 with Leigh's Disease. Leigh's is a degenerative neuro-muscular mitocondrial disease which has no treatment or cure. While medication can help with the pain and symptoms, Matthew continues to deteriorate. He is now 12 and under in-home hospice care. He is completely bed-bound and due to the curvature of his spine, is unable to sit up for even a few minutes, there-fore using his wheelchair is no longer an option. While he is still somewhat able to eat, he has a gastric tube directly into his stomach for feeding and receiving medications. He has had a catheter for over a year which has also produced its own complications. While Matthew has exceeded the original prognosis of his life expectancy by several years, it is impossible to know how long he may have left with us. It could be a short time or several more years with God's grace, but Leigh's is 100% fatal.

The money donated will be used to pay for Matthew's medical expenses and help with daily living expenses. Matthew's mom, Gianna, has cared for him for several years and has been unable to work. Matthew will be the second child she has lost to this cruel disease. Her first son, Trey, passed at age 10. Due to the stress on Gianna of losing another child, the mental toll, and Matthew's continued deterioration, his dad, BJ, has recently had to become the full time caregiver and could no longer continue working. He has actually become the primary caregiver to both wife and son.

Please keep Matthew, Gianna, and BJ in your thoughts and prayers. They need your support to stay strong and to be able to manage their day to day lives with as much strength and dignity as possible.

If you have any questions, suggestion, or simply want to contact a member of the family, please e-mail

All your generous contributions, thoughts and prayers are appreciated so very much!

Thank you all. Matthew, Gianna, and BJ Butman
