Hi All, My name is Carmen Ortiz-Roman, I am asking for help for my ailing husband, Michael Roman, age 49. My husband is a generous person and is loved and adored by everyone he knows and meets. He always sees the good in everyone and always makes people feel special. He is a DJ, a member of the Hoboken Elks, and volunteers his service for the fundraisers. He especially loves to do the yearly Christmas party for the handicapped and underprivileged children. We are away from home, and we are asking for help obtaining funds for his medical care, my lodging, etc. Express the magnitude of what contributors will help you achieve. On May 29th while returning home to New Jersey from a family reunion in North Carolina, my husband felt ill so I took him to the Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. As he walked into the hospital, he suffered cardiac arrest. It turned out that he was in need of bypass surgery (this is largely due to his diabetes disease), but he required physical therapy for a few weeks prior to the surgery. Since we were so far away from home and after spending 3 weeks in the hospital in Virginia, the doctors felt it was ok to send him home to NJ to work on his physical therapy and then undergo surgery. On June 18th, as we transporting him on a 5 hour drive home via ambulance, Michael suffered another cardiac arrest within 1-1/2 hours. He was rushed to John Hopkins and was revived within 30 minutes. The doctors at Johns Hopkins felt that since he suffered another cardiac arrest within 3 weeks, the bypass surgery would have to be done as soon as possible. His surgery was performed on June 29th. Since his heart was so badly damaged they were only able to do a double bypass instead of a triple. But through medication and healthy eating, he can still live a long life. He has been in the cardiac intensive care unit for the past 4 weeks and is progressing but very slowly. He is a strong person and I am sure that all of the prayers he is receiving from all of the people, who know and love him, are the reason why he is surviving through all of this. I have been by his side since day 1 and have not been home since then and have not gone back to work because I cannot bear to leave his side, I am willing to make this sacrifice to be near him and help him get better. Therefore, the funding will go towards my lodging and copays from the medical bills and help pay our current bills and for his home care until I am able to get back to work, which I don't think will be until the end of September. I sincerely appreciate any help we can get. Hopefully someday, we can meet some of you and you can meet this wonderful person and feel that special way that he makes people feel. In fact, the nurses at Mary Washington are keeping in touch with us and are concerned about his progress.
