The family of Lillian Sanchez are coming together to help raise money to support her in her battle against lung cancer.

In her words:

Christmas had just passed and we were waiting for the new year 2012, I felt a cold or the flu coming on or so I thought. I had developed this terrible cough, which just kept getting worse and worse, I finally got an appointment to see a Doctor at Kaiser Urgent Care, on January 2, 2012. Dr. O'Connor saw me and stated she wanted to get an Ex Ray of my lungs, she thought I had developed walking Pneumonia.

The result came back quickly, the Dr. informed me that I did not have Pneumonia, it was Bronchitis, and she told me there was a small shadow on the film. Dr. Lapsley my regular doctor, scheduled a CT scan for three days later, after the scan was completed, Dr. Lapsley called me on the phone, he apologized for calling me rather that waiting to see me in person, he then informed me that it was a tumor and that he wanted to schedule me for a biopsy ASAP.

During all this time back and forth with the different departments , it never crossed my mind that the shadow could actually be something serious, I knew the Lord had me in His hands and He would take care of me.

I had the Biopsy done, He confirmed that the tumor was a stage one non-small cell cancerous tumor. My mind was in turmoil, I felt I was just given my death sentence. I could not stop my mind from thinking what would my husband Fred, my kids and grand kids do without me. How were we going to pay for cancer treatments and surgeries that might be necessary. How were we going to be able to pay for someone to provide care for me, I thought this would wipe out our small retirement and savings.

I was this strong women who rarely got sick, who took care of her family. In my bedroom I secretly cried, and felt sorry for myself, thinking why me Lord! I knew that He would not put more on me that I could handle. The Chemo and Radiation are complete, now I am just waiting to see if the tumor has shrunk enough to remove it or what my options are. I am taking each day as it comes, knowing that God will always be there for me, and thankful for the support of my family and friends who help me in any way they can.
