Sarah's Summer Therapy
Sarah's family needs your help to raise the money necessary for her therapy this summer - Please help us now!
Sarah Ecker is a happy and energetic 10 year old girl from Carlsbad, California suffering from a severe case of Apraxia of Speech and slight Autism. Sarah has nearly normal physical abilities and thoroughly enjoys her friends and family. At Hope Elementary she attends special education and mainstream classrooms and has participated in the Y-Indian Guide Princess Camping program (she loves her Miwok tribe!). She understands almost everything and communicates using very basic sign language and a few simple words.
Her neurological disability creates extreme difficulty with the motor sequencing and organization necessary for normal speech. With specific and intensive therapy this can be dramatically improved to the point of speaking in short sentences whereas today she can only speak a few very simple words.
Sarah has recently been accepted into an intensive three month program with the premier clinic in the United States. The effectiveness of this program has been proven as Sarah attended this program for one month three years ago with outstanding and enduring results. Being 10 she has now developed sufficiently to take full advantage of the program and will be able to continue the fundamentals of the program when she returns to California after the summer.
The program requires Sarah and her father to re-locate to Michigan for the summer. We are trying to raise $10,000 to assist with the initial costs for her to attend the therapy program and also purchase an Ipad for her (she uses one all day at school to communicate with her classmates and teachers).
If you have any questions, or suggestions or just need to contact a representative for the family please call George Ecker (Sarah's Dad) at 760-828-3243 or e-mail at email@example.com
