In Nepal, less than 40% of girls attend school, an alarming number that is even higher in the rural villages. Let's change that.

While volunteering in Nepal this past fall, I was truly blessed to be introduced to Prem Kunwar. Prem is a professional Nepali language and linguistics teacher who taught me the "Nepali way" of selfless generosity and kindness. He also attempted to teach me the language, but that is a pitiful story...

Prem grew up in Arnakot Deurali, a small village located on a high, isolated plateau in western Nepal, 4-days walk from the nearest road. Like most small villages in Nepal, each day in Amakot Deurali is a fight for clean water, food, and medicine for the sick and elderly. With such things in short supply, the average Arnakot resident doesn’t live long past their 60's and education – a critically important factor in our community’s development – is often inaccessible or financially infeasible.

Which is where we come in. I have once again been peer pressured into running the 2012 Boston Marathon in April and couldn't think of a better cause to run for. With every $50 I raise, a young girl in Amakot Deurali will receive the following:

-A full year of school tuition
-School supplies, including all books required
-A full school uniform, which is a luxury in the village

As of now, Prem has 7 girls sponsored and is immensely proud of the opportunities he has been able to offer the young girls in the village. Upon hearing that I was going to fund raise for his cause, Prem lit up with excitement and then cried tears of joy. Every dollar is received with appreciation and eternal gratitude from Prem, myself, and the entire village of Arnakot Deurali. With your generous donations we will be able to give these little girls the gift of hope. And in a country of endless struggle, there is no better gift .
