Just imagine how you might feel if You were diagnosed with breast cancer, had major surgery and in the meantime, you lost your home. Soon after, your spouse was diagnosed with "end stage liver disease" and needs a liver transplant. It's a lot for us to imagine but this has been a reality for my dear friends, Peggy and Ernie Johnson.

Ernie and Peggy Maze-Johnson moved to Las Vegas in 2000 and 2001. (Peggy moved a year after Ernie). They owned a successful Plumbing and General Contracting business on the coast of Washington until the main industries of fishing and timer went into an economic slide. Ernie worked as a proud member of the pipe fitters and plumbers, Local #525, Las Vegas until one of the main industries, construction took a fall and came to a stop. Peggy is a political consultant and activist. She was the Executive Director of Citizen Alert, fighting the Yucca Mountain Project (transporting and burying highly dangerous radioactive waste in Nevada) until funding started drying up due to the very successful efforts of her organization with the help of Senator Harry Reid. Peggy also helped project "Safe Village". Her organization took one of the worst neighborhoods in Las Vegas and helped renovate the housing, made gated communities and the police now have to walk a beat through this neighborhood to keep the residents there safe. The children there no longer have to worry or live in the "hood". She is an inspiration to so many!
After many months of unemployment, Ernie moved to Phoenix to try to get called out on a huge job that kept getting delayed, while Peg was home fighting with Wells Fargo to get a loan modification, but lost the battle and they lost their home. Ernie came back to Las Vegas just in time to be with Peggy when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo a bilateral mastectomy! That was February 2011.

Now in 2012, Ernie has been diagnosed with "end stage liver disease" and is presently being evaluated to be placed on the liver transplant list. The plumbers have great health benefits, but it is not near enough to cover all the expenses. Here are just a few of the medications that will be necessary to sustain him in the months following the transplant:
1. Prograf $3,000 mo
2. Cellcept $1,400 mo
3. Valcyte $3,000 mo 3-6 mos.
There is also the expense of living away from home for several months as he will have to be near the hospital in California. That will cost a lot of money. So, you see where this is going? We need your help and will so grateful for anything you can do!!
Peggy and Ernie are our very dear friends and they have had more then their share of hard times. They hold a very special place in our hearts and are truly wonderful people. They are also valuable members of this society and have been active in the Union, social, business and they help so many people in recovery. We pray for a successful surgery and speedy recovery for Ernie.
