Rocky is our 2 y.o. Boston Terrier who is very sick!

UPDATE 10/3/10: Rocky had his surgery about 4 weeks ago. While there were no ulcers that were amenable to surgery, the problem area was located. It was found that the lower bowels were extremely inflammed. Rocky has been on a cocktail of meds that now include Prednisone and Misoprostol. He is responding excellently and we are already cutting back some of his other meds. Rocky is still in need of your prayers. So please say a quick prayer or send him positive energy as you read this. As his medications are decreased, we are still worried he could have a flare up. Everyday we get closer to a full recovery and hopefully remission is right around the corner!

Rocky is an energetic and lovable 2-years old Boston Terrier.  We got Rocky from a private kennel who we thought got their dogs from local breeders.  However, we now believe the private kennel got Rocky from a puppy mill.   We are so blessed to have Rocky in our lives and so happy that is a part of our family.  He really is our baby!

Over the last 2 years, Rocky has led an active life and has been a normal and healthy dog.  At the end of June 2010, Rocky suffered internal bleeding in his intestinal tract.  He was admitted to emergency vet hospital where he received a blood transfusion and was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease.  He was brought back to the e.r. the next day for more blood loss.  Rocky was appropriately diagnosed with Severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease.  Since the end of June, Rocky has been on a cocktail of drugs that he responds to at first, but his body then rejects.  He has undergone a total of 4 blood transfusions, 3 ultrasounds, and endoscopy and a biopsy to help determine the cause of this bleeding.

As I create this page, Rocky is at the emergency room for a rapid blood loss.  We believe the only solution to his illness is surgery.  He is in great hands with an internal medicine doctor.  If she elects to do surgery, she will go in and explore his intestinal tract and remove any ulcers that are bleeding but could not be detected by the ultrasound or the endoscopy.

In just under 2 months, we have spent almost $10,000 on medical care for Rocky.  We believe given his age and that he is relatively heathly otherwise, that he will recover from this if he has surgery.

Given these tough economic times, we know asking for a donation may be hard.  Please know that any donations received will be put towards Rocky's medical bills so that we don't have to hesitate to give him any future care he may need.  And any unused donations will be dontated to a charity that we have yet to determine.

If you could please help with assistance, we are eternally grateful as is Rocky.  And if you can't, we understand that.  But please send Rocky your prayers and positive thoughts.  He needs them right now more than ever,
