The family and friends of Luke Galloway are uniting to raise money to help with travel and medical expenses. Please show your support!!

Meet Luke Galloway, a typical nine year old who loves baseball, swimming and eating chimichangas. Luke also loves rough housing with his 11 and 7 year old brothers.

On the surface, Luke is just an all American kid. However, if you see him swimming one day, you might notice a valve located on his lower abdomen. This is there because in April of 2009, Luke was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease. Hirschsprung’s is a rare disease of the colon that totally disables the function of the bowels. Although Luke is nine, years old, he has never had regular bowel movements. Because of this disease, Luke is constantly battling with infections of the colon, called Enterocolitis, that will cause him to be hospitalized in order to clear the infection. These hospitalizations require days, often weeks in the hospital at one time.

In a first attempt to correct the Hirschsprung’s, Luke underwent surgery. During this surgery, the damaged or dead part of Luke’s colon was cut out and removed. The goal of this surgery was to pull through and connect the parts of his colon that were alive. Initially, all looked well, but Luke continued to have a perpetual constipation and frequent Enterocolitis infections. Several years later, having endured numerous hospitalizations and two colostomys, Luke has not improved. His colostomy has been reversed and the valve previously mentioned is so Luke can have his colon flushed out everyday through a top down enema. Luke is required to have this painful enema performed everyday by his mother in order to remove feces that his colon will not remove.

In January of 2012, in a last effort to repair the damage to his colon caused by the Hirschsprungs, Luke was referred to the Colorectal Center at Cincinnati, Ohio. During the first trip in April, his condition was reassessed and he will be returning to Cinncinatti for another surgery. In this surgery, Luke will have more of his colon removed and he will undergo therapy to teach his colon how to function. There are no guarantees with this surgery but is the last chance we have to give Luke a normal functioning life and childhood. Luke’s families savings are depleted after years of medical expenses and we are trying to raise funds to assist with the costs.

The friends and family of Luke Galloway are trying to raise funds to assist with the exorbitant out of pocket costs associated with this month long trip. If you feel compelled to help Luke out, please donate by accessing the donate link on this page or by sending check to Charlotte Earnest, c/o Luke Galloway. 1712 Carlisle Circle, Leeds, AL 35094. No gift is too small. Cards and letters of support and prayer are also greatly appreciated and encouraging to Luke.

Thank you and God Bless.
