Dear Friend,

Let me introduce you to my daughter, Teresa Fritton, a wonderful, dynamic woman full of spunk and beautiful spirit. She is a devoted mother to her two darling boys, Ben 5 years old and Henry 1½ years old; a dedicated wife and partner to Ted (her husband of nine years); and an accomplished, devoted educator who has been teaching middle school at Wilson K-8 School in Tucson, Arizona since 2000. Teresa is full of life! She is Arizona born and bred, graduating high school from Canyon del Oro, receiving her Bachelor’s degree from Prescott College and her Master’s from Northern Arizona University.

My heart breaks as I share with you that Teresa’s life was altered in an unimaginable, unexpected way on April 13th of this year.

Seeing her physician for what she thought was mastitis, the doctor recommended an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed two masses in Teresa’s left breast (two additional masses were also found for a total of four). A mammogram and biopsy followed. Uncharacteristically, even before results of the biopsy were complete, the radiologist urged Teresa to “Prepare yourself over the weekend for your biopsy results. I would be shocked if this is not cancer.” Teresa received confirmation on April 17th that she has two types of aggressive cancer, one with an especially high rate of recurrence and both of which multiply at rapid rates. Teresa has begun 20 weeks of chemotherapy and, once completed, will face a mastectomy and seven weeks of radiation.

Teresa is blessed as we are an incredibly close-knit, supportive, loving family. She has three sisters and one brother. Her husband and sisters planned a “Mohawk Party” when Teresa’s hair started to fall out and recorded this event with a picture of the family with Mohawk hairdos.

Many of Teresa’s colleagues at Wilson K-8 School have offered to donate their sick days to her so she does not have to go without pay next year while she is sick from the chemotherapy, recovering from surgery, and suffering the side effects of radiation. Her former teaching partner, Vanessa Hill, is coordinating meals to be made for Teresa, Ted, Ben, and Henry to have on hand when Teresa is too sick to cook.

Even with all of her stalwart supporters, Teresa still needs you. I am writing to ask you to join “Teresa’s Team”-- to join Teresa’s family of supporters as she battles this horrible disease.
