Ernie is now confined to a wheelchair and because of his growing medical needs, we are asking his friends and family members for help.

Ernie Mulvey

One of our very own American heroes desperately needs our help. Ernie Mulvey, a 50 year old loving father of four, husband and friend has been battling with Lou Gehrig’s disease since 2010. The disorder causes muscle weakness and muscle loss throughout the body caused by degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons. Unable to function, the muscles weaken. Affected individuals may ultimately lose the ability to initiate and control all voluntary movement.

Ernie’s story is one of commitment, bravery and service. He has faithfully served our country in the US Air Force and US Army National Guard for over 17 years. He proudly served our country during two tours in Iraq at the cost of leaving his family and friends.

Ernie is very committed to serving not only his country but helping and serving his community. He has dedicated much of his time to working with at risk youth. He worked for Mountain View School District, in El Monte, California from 1995-2006 doing a variety of jobs: bus driver, food service driver, warehouse mail delivery and security at the middle schools. Also, he volunteered his time to coach and train inner city youth to complete the Los Angeles Marathon as part of Students Run L.A. His dedication to giving back to his community has given hundreds of underrepresented kids the support needed to accomplish such an amazing feat as finishing the marathon. More importantly, these kids found a friend, a mentor and a positive role model in Ernie.

As his body gives way to this debilitating disease, it becomes harder and harder for Ernie to get around and to do basic functions that we take for granted. Ernie is now confined to a wheelchair and because of his growing medical needs, we are asking his friends and family members to help him in his time of need. It is our goal to raise $30,000 to help purchase a van with a lift and to make modifications to his house.

Ernie has helped many of us, now please let us help him. God Bless.

We are our brother’s keeper.
