The family and loved ones of Mike Beeghly are uniting to raise funds for medical expenses for the treatment of his advanced lung cancer.

On April 27, 2012, my partner Mike was diagnosed with lung cancer after a routine chest x-ray. He had no symptoms that would suggest something was wrong other than slight pain in his right hip. A follow-up CT and PET scan revealed lung cancer, non-small cell adenocarcinoma, which began in the lungs and spread to the bone in both hips. It had already advanced to stage four ruling out surgery as an option. This life threatening condition would not only affect Mike and I, his family and friends, but it would also affect countless boys and girls who have come to know him through a mutual love of playing baseball and softball. Mike’s challenge, excitement, and personal rewards which come from participating in these sports was an activity shared by he and young ball players who have been on the field with him during the past decade.

Mike’s inability to run now made it impossible to continue his favorite past time, being an umpire for youth baseball and softball teams.

Mike’s “past time” has been aimed at helping neighborhood boys and girls develop what he believes are lifelong values gained from teamwork, self-discipline, and respect for rules and authority. This led to an even larger commitment dedicating Mike’s efforts to include players from many different youth baseball and softball organizations, expanding his interest by traveling to games at surrounding high schools and neighboring counties, and working with national organizations.

In spite of the survival statistics with this type of cancer, he remains hopeful that he can be an exception to the norm. His positive attitude and determination helps to guide the power of healing and in believing, regardless of the odds. People who are close to Mike, his children, ages 19 and 20 years, and family and friends know Mike will do everything in his power to alter the chain of events this disease often follows.

Mike’s inspiration, like the encouragement he offers me and others’, has been an inspiration in so many ways.

Doctors have prescribed an aggressive regimen of treatments that include radiation and chemotherapy. Along with their expert advice, Mike immediately made positive changes regarding diet, spiritual guidance through practicing meditation, and takes natural supplements designed to support and promote the healing reactions of the specific chemotherapy drugs he is given.

Partial positive results showed on the latest CT scan taken in July 2012. We believe all the efforts we are making in the cost for medication, food and supplements are necessary to continue getting positive results. Medications, doctors’ co-pays, and insurance deductibles, amount to an additional $2,000.00 monthly. Income from Mike’s part-time position with the County School Board only pays for basic living expenses and provides him with essential insurance coverage. We’re hoping and praying that four more months of these treatments will significantly reduce the cancer overall and a less aggressive, and less expensive, regimen of treatment can then be realized.

We sincerely thank you for helping Mike with your contribution and prayers. Our goal is to maintain optimum medical care and support, eventually enabling Mike to get back on the ball field where he can continue to realize his dreams, and be a beneficial part of the lives of all those he cares for.
