Steve Mahoney's friends and family are uniting to raise money to help him and his wife Christine battle stage 4B Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Donate!
In November, Steve was diagnosed with Stage 4B Hodgkin's Lymphoma. From November 2012 until April 2013, Steve received 10 treatments with ABVD chemo. Up until March, Steve showed a great clinical response- the enlarged lymph nodes were all shrinking! But then something happened; the scans from March to April showed that the lymph nodes were no longer responding, in fact they were growing. His oncologist explained that the lymph nodes are now enlarged with cancer cells that are resistant and no longer responding to the ABVD, so it was time to begin a second-line treatment.
On May 17, 2013 Steve and Christine traveled to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC for his stem cell transplant consultation. Steve then started high-dose treatment called ICE chemotherapy to prepare his body for the transplant. The ICE treatments showed signs of working but Steve's bone marrow remained infected. Steve was then given Adcetris for treatment. The doctors told Steve that the treatments were not working and that the cancer was progressing. Now Steve has started BEACOPP treatment.
Steve is such a strong man, but he is also very prideful. Even when he needs help himself, he tries to take care of everyone else and doesn't ask for help. So I am asking for help for him. Steve's treatment and all of his testing, as well as the high monthly premiums to keep his health insurance and medication and transportation costs will continue to be very expensive, placing a financial burden on Steve and his wife Christine.
Any donations that we receive will go to paying his insurance deductible, out-of-pocket expenses, and co-pays, medication costs and transportation to and from Wake Forest.
Thanks everyone so much for all of your help and support and being there for Steve during his battle! He will beat this, but he will need a little help!
