Blanc. Thames. Hadrian. --------------------> 7 Days. 3 Challenges. 1 Goal: $2,012 for youth financial literacy

Climb Mont Blanc. Swim Thames River. Run Hadrian's Wall.

On July 1, 2012 Moneythink will begin its first fiscal year as a professionalized financial education NGO. I aim to raise $2,012 through the 7 Day Challenge to offset the costs of the 1st annual Moneythink Summer Leadership Institute, a gathering of leaders from our 17 U.S. chapters that will equip each branch to empower local youth to make responsible financial decisions.

I started the week off by free-solo climbing Mont Blanc's Italian Face (no harness, no ropes no supporting teammate) via the Gonella glacier route. On my way up I was caught in an ice storm and was pinned alone at 14,300 ft for eighteen hours but was able to make my way up and back down with only bad windburn, a frost-nipped toe and dehydration. I reached Europe's 15,782 ft ceiling on Saturday, June 16th.

On Wednesday, June 20th I faced the low-tide, swift current, vertical banks and questionable water purity of the Thames River. I crossed the river downstream from the London Bridge and made my way across the 1,000 ft. divide under the cover of darkness.

Then, at dawn on June 23rd, I set out with 500 other runners along the Ancient Roman Frontier to race the Hadrian’s Wall Ultra. The wall’s ruins span 70 miles from the Irish Sea to the North Sea and offer scenic landscapes and rolling hills. On mile 20 I stumbled on a rock, straining my Achilles tendon and fell from 2nd place. I gutted the next 50 miles and finished 44th, completing the 7 Day Challenge by triumphantly hobbling across the finish line.

This 3-event, week-long challenge was the official kickoff of the Moneythink Charity Athletes, a fundraising platform that will enable our members, friends and advocates to support the organization through athletic involvement or the sponsorship of a Charity Athlete.

Thank you for your continued generosity and all the help along the way. Our work would not be possible without it.

You can relive the fun on twitter by searching for #CharityAthlete!

Best wishes,
Greg Nance
