LGBT and Allies Poetry Slam
Graduate Students of Education will organize a poetry slam for LGBT Youth and Allies to improve the literacy community of downtown Buffalo.
“Four things come not back: the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life and the neglected opportunity.”
LGBTQI Adolescents are often living in communities and attending schools that do not consistently support them. The LGBT and Allies Youth Poetry Slam will help develop literacy and community for LGBT Youth and Allies in downtown Buffalo.
As a Graduate Student in the University at Buffalo School of Education, I will work with a committee of supportive adults/students as well as in collaboration with Gay and Lesbian Student Services of Western New York, to bring LGBT Adolescents and Allies to workshops and the event.
All funds raised will be used to pay for materials used during workshops, the event space, and prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
Prizes will be educational tools such as Kindles that will help youth excel in and continue their education through digital literacy.
All extra funds raised will be donated to Gay and Lesbian Youth Services of Western New York.
