Vanessa's Story [by her mother, Carmen Cuevas]

The one and only objective of this fundraiser is so we can greatly lessen V's instances of her life being jeopardized... a fight to survive this silent killer ...a way to fight this disease to prevent irreversible damage to her eyes, kidneys, etc. and a host of other possible complications... Together we can, at the least, work towards prevention of these things happening in the future to someone so young, so full of life and, who loves to give back in any way she's able... "That's V"! :)

My daughter, Vanessa, has been a Type 1 Diabetic since she was 9 years old, she’s now 29. She takes up to 4 shots a day to keep her alive, not to mention, pricking her fingers 4-8 times a day. Needless to say, the disease has caused her much pain throughout her young life ... We are fundraising to purchase an Insulin Pump-- reference www.medtronicdiabetes.com if desired... The pump will put her in control and give her a better (WAY better!) quality of life now and, in the future (complications drastically reduced with pump therapy). The chances of Vanessa having a dangerous low is greatly minimized.

Currently, Vanessa is in need of an insulin pump (ref link above) - the cost is $6,500. retail, but, we're working on qualifying for their Patient's Assistance Program, where we were told today, we could get about 50% off (great news! ... we'll be able to get the pump sooner!) :)

I'm currently in Florida looking after my mother who had a stroke a little over 5 years ago... I'm, simultaneously, working hard to market my insurance business... sooner or later, I know I will be able to afford the maintenance of the pump, but, right now the funds are just not there ...not yet anyway.

With everyone just doing a small part and, forwarding on the link to their friends... we'll be able to raise the funds in no time. I love to hear Vanessa laugh (her laugh is contagious!)... It would be great to hear her laugh even more :) (actually, it would be Awesome!)

It would be huge to present her with an insulin pump so she can accomplish so much more and, especially reduce chances of future complications a great deal. I think every child and adult living having to live with Type 1 Diabetes, day in and day out, should consider having one. The cost is pretty steep though, that's why I'm reaching out to friends and family and friends of friends of family :) ...to accomplish this goal...
