A.C.C.T. NOW! for Alex Calderon
The family and friends of Alex Calderon are uniting to raise money to help with his battle against Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
A.C.C.T NOW! (Alex Calderon Cancer Treatments NOW!)
Our very dear friend Alex has just been told he’s got Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Alex
is 43 years old. He’s a loving husband to Svetlana, and devoted father to two young children, first and foremost. He’s a 10- year Navy Veteran who’s continued his service to his country as an Overseas Security Contractor since he left the Navy in 2004. He eats right, takes care of himself, and is a tri-athlete, in the peak of fitness.
Three weeks ago we all sat around our table, laughing, joking, drinking micro-brews and telling stories with our friend Ross and the kids running around, happily. Alex complained vaguely about a pain in his side. Today he’s sitting across from us with a tube in his nose draining the fluid from his stomach and receiving weekly chemo treatments. In the middle of what must be painful to him, he’s laughing, entertaining us with stories of life in Italy with Svetlana when he was stationed there, and how she was finally able to get a fiancé visa so they could get married and live in the same place after a courtship separated by thousands of miles and the events of 9/11, which had made seeing one another nearly impossible, as she is Russian.
Alex and Svetlana have two beautiful children. Nicolai is 8, a beautiful boy who loves playing soccer and having daddy take him to school in the mornings. Polina is three. She has long, golden-streaked honey hair and, like her mother, beautiful, big, blue, eyes, but she looks just like her daddy.
Like so many veterans and contractors, Alex’s insurance just isn’t enough to cover the expenses of a real illness. His benefits were used up in the week of tests that led up to his horrible diagnosis. Going forward, the chemotherapy treatments he must receive in order to try to shrink the tumors must be paid out of his pocket. At a time when he should be concerned about getting better, he worries because he will be unable to work. He worries for the financial burden the cost of this illness will place on his family.
There are no words to express what a good man Alex Calderon is. He has devoted his life to serving his country, both in the military and later as a civilian government contractor. He is the kind of man whose thoughts constantly turn to others, even as he battles this devastating disease. It is a testament to his character that we, his friends, have rallied around him in order to attempt to get as much support for him in what is the fight of his life.
We are asking, humbly, for donations to aid him in diverting the cost of his treatment. Alex is a true patriot who has worked for years trying to ensure that those of us at home don’t ever have to endure another 9/11. It is the least we can do to try to give him our support, financially and morally, in his time of need. It is what all of our veterans deserve from us-- to never have to face a disease like this without hope of treatment.
If you are more comfortable sending donations directly to Alex, we ask that you make them payable to ALEX CALDERON, and mail them to the following address:
