We are raising $ to cover the expense of ABA therapy not covered by insurance and get him an iPad to help him communicate.

Casey is 3 years old and was diagnosed about a year ago with autism. He was a perfectly normal developing adorable little boy until he was around 18months old. Like a light switch went off our sweet child became Lifeless. He no longer responded when you called his name or looked you in the eye and completely stopped talking. He still cannot say more than 2 words. We started treatment over a year and a half ago on the eastern shore of Maryland but there just aren't many options there. I started taking him to Kennedy Kreiger, a 2.5 hour drive each way to receive better therapy. We were told that the most recent studies have proven that intense, frequent ABA therapy is showing astonishing results in very young children with autism. I decided we had to make a huge before he was too far along developmental to make an impact. So I was faced with the choice of driving to Baltimore 4 days a week and leaving his brother behind with my parents or move our whole family someplace with better services. My heart said that moving was the right thing to do. We were so blessed to have met a speech therapist in Maryland who had recently moved from fairfax county virginia and raved about their preschool autism program she worked at. I looked into it and found that children with autism as young as 2 yrs old were in a classroom 5 days a week all day doing ABA therapy with class sizes under 7 and a 2:1 student to teacher ratio! We went and visited and fell in love with the town. My fiance started applying for jobs right away and quickly found a great job. Now less than 2 months later we are living there. I am a hair stylist and have built up a large clientele and am commuting for the rest of the summer but ultimately will have to be in Virginia full time for the kids and not work. It has taken a huge toll on us financially and emotionally as our income has been cut in half and our expenses have more than doubled. We have been nothing but positive about this whole experience because we know we made the best choice for Casey.
