This is the Save Tucker, heartworm treatment fund. All funds will be used to cover Tucker's medical expenses for the next few months.

Tucker is our family's Blue Heeler mix of 6 years old (in people years that's about 42). Tucker's our son's very first dog and was a Humane Society rescue. We adopted him at 3 months old and he was very ill. The Humane Society we adopted him from was unable to afford a vet on staff and frequently put their dogs to sleep who only suffered from kennel cough because they could not afford treatment and it's contagious. Upon rescuing Tucker we found along with the kennel cough he also had Distemper, hook worms and a skin parasite. We were told by a vet paralysis would set in and we would have to put him down. With lots of love and care, Tucker has made it 6 years.
We have moved across the state for my husband's work and now we are expecting another baby in a few weeks. I noticed Tucker has been a little sluggish, has put on some weight mainly in his chest area. He has always been a slender, frisky and loving pet so this is not his norm. We have taken him to a vet and he has tested positive for both adult and baby heartworms. The vet has recommended he be treated for them asap. We have 2 other dogs and were also told they is a very high chance they will all test positive. It was very sad and very stressful news for us. My son has lost a cat that had cancer in the past and was just traumatized by it. He still misses him and it's been years. I do not want him to have to feel that loss again and Tucker should not have to endure any more sickness as he was sick at such an early age.
The treatment starts with the first procedure costing $397.20, it will include all the necessary testing to find what stage the heartworms are at, the size of his heart and state of his other organs. The second treatment totals $298.00, it will include the first injection for Heartworm Adulticide, pain medication and hospitalization for one week. He will come home after a week and will have to be kept quarantined and calm for another week. The 3rd treatment is $413.00, it includes 2 more injections, hospitalization again, more pain meds and they will run chemistry rechecks on him. They will be giving him Prednisone and Tramadol. The last treatment is $42.00 for dayboard and Office Injection. Total cost we're looking at is $1,150.20 plus any taxes.
We are desperate to get this treatment started because heartworms are a very progressive disease. We are currently keeping him on heartworm prevention pills which we are told may kill off some of the baby heartworms. We are trying to keep him calm.
Being a small family, living in a new area with a baby on the way we are asking for any help with the cost of Tucker's treatment. We love our dog, please help us save his life.
