Family and friends of Therese Nadeau are uniting to raise money to help her pay off existing medical debts and purchase her new service dog!

Therese Nadeau has been a leader in advocacy and awareness for people with disabilities her entire life. She is an amazing woman with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and has helped many others despite her own disability and chronic health issues. She has done more in her lifetime than most people accomplish WITHOUT a severe disability! She has been a social worker, author, public speaker, and television host (for CT's award winning documentary "Able Lives"). She has supported causes such as universal design in housing, personal assistance training, accessible public transportation and emergency preparedness.

She needs help from us now to help her through a difficult transition. She is also incredibly humble and modest, and would never ask for help, that's why I am asking for her.

Her companion and service dog of 9 years, Sassy, has recently passed away. Sassy was her helper, friend, and co-worker. Many of us knew and loved Sassy. Sassy and Therese spent a lot of time last year at the vet getting tests, xrays, medications and trying several expensive procedures to save her life. Over the past year, Sassy's veterinary costs exceeded what Therese was able to pay, currently leaving Therese in deep debt. While she has been blessed by being matched with a new service dog Jada. But Jada has costs too!

Most people do not realize how much Therese spends to simply lead an independent life. They do not realize how frugally she lives or how difficult it is. But she has never given up because of her passion to be a role model for people with her disability and her selfless desire to help others. Now that's COURAGE. There are so little supports right now for adults with disabilities, and for her to continue to support herself like this- she needs a little help from her friends.

Please consider helping Therese through this very difficult transition in her life!

She and her new service dog will be grateful and you will make their new life together possible and happy!!!!
