Please join the family and friends of Sharon Watson to raise money to help with all expenses related to our mothers' lung cancer battle.

My mother has had to endure many battles in her life time. Over the years, she has overcome uterine cancer through a partial hysterectomy. Although my mother was a smoker, she stopped smoking over 20 years ago; but the damage was already done. In 2009, they found a small tumor in her right lung and she was diagnosed a Stage I-non small cell lung cancer. Soon after her diagnosis because she had been taking steroids to fight inflamation in her lungs, she developed a perforation in her bowel and had to have surgery. The surgeon then advised us that she might not make it through the surgery because of her poor lung function, but to the surprise of all her doctors and excellent care she received she pulled through and began taking radiation therapy to help shrink the cancerous tumor that was wrecking havoc on my mothers body. As time went by we all remained hopeful, but to no avail with each CT Scan it only revealed more devasting news. In the summer of 2010, she began having shortness of breath and difficulty breathing which resulted in another hospital admission. It was during this admission she was told she had a pleural effusion and would have to have her lung drained. They drained off over 700 ml of fluid. The fluid was sent for cytology which confirmed that her cancer had advanced to Stage 4. She began taking chemotherapy and with each treatment I could she the life being drained from her body. Her hair fell out and she lost over 100 pounds. As she continues to fight, I can see the light fading in my mothers eyes. Our family and friends remain hopeful but have come to accept that this cancer is winning the battle. Because my mother lived a very simple life, she virtually has no life insurance.
