Dee and her family would appreciate your help making the dream of a kidney transplant a reality.

Dee is the best person you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. She is a caring mother, a loving Grandma and a dedicated friend. In the past several years, her kidneys have failed as a result of a hereditary disease. Now with end stage renal disease, she needs a kidney transplant.

Dee has been on dialysis for the past two years. She is attached to the dialysis machine 5 hours a day, 3 days a week. Taking a vacation or missing a day is not an option when you are on dialysis. It's a constant battle to keep the vein in her arm open so that she can have dialysis. This vein is her lifeline. Without it, dialysis would not be possible. It has already been repaired 3 times, resulting in a horrible scar on her arm which she wears like a badge of courage. Whenever anyone asks about it, she uses it as an icebreaker to explain the importance of organ donation. Dee always tries to turn a negative into a positive.

Receiving a transplant comes at with a heavy price. When the call comes that a kidney is available, it would be comforting to know that she can take the transplant and not worry so much about how she is going to pay for it. The estimated out of pocket cost of prescriptions for the first year alone is expected to be approximately $10,000 in addition to the cost of the transplant itself.

When a kidney becomes available, Dee will have to travel 200+ miles to receive the transplant at the University of Utah and stay in an extended stay hotel for several weeks following discharge from the hospital. She will not be able to return home to her family of two Shih Tzus until she is well enough to be so far away for the transplant center. She will also make frequent trips to the transplant center for follow-up care and testing. Her only daughter, Breezy, will take time off work and leave her family to care for her during this time as she will not be able to be left alone.

Dee's medical costs are already staggering and the future costs promise to be even more expensive. Dee's attitude remains positive and optimistic. At a time when many people would just give up, her courage is inspiring and she gets out of bed every morning with the hope that today might be the day that she gets the call that a kidney is available. Dee lives each day to its fullest, hoping to someday see her grandchildren, Aspen and Damien, graduate from high school, get married and maybe even meet her great grandchildren. She is encouraged by the kindness of those she meets and knows that everything happens for a reason. This battle WILL make her stronger and give her to tools to help others in need. Dee refuses to go down without a fight. Please help her win the biggest fight of her life. If you would like to contribute to Dee's fight, your donation can be made directly through this secure site and is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your kindness. Every penny helps.
