Felix is a beagle that will be 4 this September and he is very loved by my husband and myself as well as by his brother Oscar.

Felix will be 4 this September and he is much loved by my husband and me as well as by his brother Oscar.

Thursday the 14th we noticed his breathing seemed labored and we felt his neck and notice a mass on his throat.
That night we took him to a local vet and they wanted to complete a comprehensive exam in excess of $1200 which we did not have.

So the next day we made arrangements for him to be seen at UC Davis since they had more reasonable fees. He had an x-ray and some blood work performed and the whole time he was such a good and brave boy. The mass in the x-ray appeared to be clear and it was suspected he had an enlarged salivary gland. We took him home and monitored him.

On Saturday he appeared to have trouble eating and drinking but was still able to take in fluid and nourishment.

Sunday night he was able to eat but drinking became extremely hard for him so we took him to the vet again. The vet was wonderful and the attempt was made to see what was in the mass. Since it appears to be puss and blood it would have to be surgically removed. The mass is a pretty good size and the vet suspect that it may be pushing on his nerves and that is affecting the use of his tongue.

The estimate of the surgery with the test and after care will be about $3000.

Since the mass is causing him difficulty in eating and drinking time is of the essence. We would like to avoid having to put him to sleep since he is like family to us but we are running out of options. Hopefully the shots he was given will reduce the swelling so we can have more time but we are not sure.
