I am an ALS patient with a goal to help other ALS patients by creating the " Make a MuscleCar" foundation.

My Name is Richard Thiede, I was diagnosed with ALS in september of 2010. Symptoms started a year earlier. As you can imagine much has changed since then, the thing that has changed the most is me!
I found out that I had a heart!! I discovered that there are people out there that are kind beyond my understanding.. with their example I started reaching out to others with this awful disease.
I have come to know how lucky I am, a wife of 24 years that stands by my side, my church, Los Altos Methodist Church ..they helped me out when times where hard. It took some time to get things situated as my family settled in to living with ALS. They were there..An old friend from my wrestling team wrote me a check when I really needed it. I am such a lucky man.
I have met many others that are not so lucky. I started helping where I could..the way I was helped, I didnt have the money..but I had the time and motivation to get some things done. I was able to get a couple of Power Chairs for two of my friends, I helped others who were part of a drug trail that showed great promise, allowing them to stay with my wife and I during the 6 months trial.
I have seen great suffering, kindness and giving at a level I never understood. sadness and joy so deep that it defines the word ALIVE.
I have a calling, God has gifted me with an idea on how to raise money for my disease. it will be called
" Make a Muscle Car"
I submit my build Muscle Cars and raffle them off. if the car cost me 25,000 to build...I will sell 500 raffle tickets at 100 dollars each. Making the odds of winning quite good. 500 tickets will generate twice the investment of the Musclecar, the foundation will recoup the costs and generate 25 thousand dollars for ALS charities ( ALS-TDI and ASLGA as well as individuals with ALS who are in need)
Unlike other Charities, the make a muscle car foundation will not hold up a picture of a victim of ALS then stick out our hand asking for money. We will create american jobs, building american cars. Adding Value throughout the process of helping those who can not help themselves.
Needless to say it cost money to get this project underway.. Lawyers to do the 501(3)c filings, web development and the funds to build the first cars.
Thank you for taking the time to read this plea for help,
I am so fortunate, my progression has been many I have known where not so lucky.
I am a retired US Marine, I have many references from the Paralyzed Veterans of America, to the Directors of the Forbes Norris MDA Research Center in San Francisco. The Families I have helped and So many friends who have come to my aid when I was first diagnosed.
