Smudge is a loving, young cat. She has an object stuck in her trachea system and will require surgery to remove it. Help save Smudge!

Anyone who has ever had a pet knows how much they can bring happiness into the home. Smudge was an angel with fur. I first found her as a kitten, caught on a bridge in Wilmington, NC. She was hiding against a support with only two ways to escape. The river or the road. When I drove by and saw her I immediately pulled over, tossed a jacket over her head and carried her on home. My mother wasn't happy about her at first but we soon discovered how loving and gentle Smudge was. She's been my constant companion and best friend for over a year since then. I couldn't ask for a better cat and I couldn't imagine how my life would be if it wasn't for that little cat. On October 1st, 2012, Smudge began to violently cough up blood. I immediately took her to the local animal hospital where she was x-rayed and given fluids for dehydration. The x ray showed a mass in her trachea slowly choking her to death. Several barium treatments later the mass has moved farther down allowing her to breathe more easily. My veterinarian cannot tell me what the mass is without a scoping. She has also predicted that while the mass has moved farther down, Smudge will continue to attempt to cough it up, potentially to choke her again. The emergency veterinary clinic will do the scoping and removal of the object but not for free. They estimate that the surgery will cost anywhere from $1200 to $1500, not including the emergency visit in the first place. I've shelled out my savings to keep the object down near her stomach, in an attempt to slow down the process but Smudge continues to cough violently. I don't know how long it will take for the mass to choke her again. I'm a college student with a part time job. I can't get money fast enough to save her. Please help out, whether it's a donation or good thoughts. I love this cat. And I'm not ready for her to leave me just yet.
