"One grasshopper will not stop a train. But a million grasshoppers will." Please help.

Lilly was adopted last year and she has truly been a blessing! She was abused at her last home and came to us through the "Pilots for Paws" program.

After a long journey, she has become a happy, sociable, active dog, but a few weeks ago she suffered a "Medial Patellar Luxation" (http://www.2ndchance.info/patella.htm). Now, after spending hundreds of dollars on x-rays, sedatives and pain meds, the diagnosis is in: Lilly needs knee surgery ("cranial cruciate repair", or CCR).

The saddest thing about it is: the vet said that this had probably happened before. Based on the condition of her knee, he thinks it happened several times. We suspect that her last owners either caused the injury with their abuse, or knew about it and chose to give her to a shelter instead of facing the cost of surgery. Or maybe even both.

Either way, Lilly is a sweet, young, vibrant pooch and I am determined to give her a good life with the love of good humans.

I've saved up $500 so far but the surgery costs $2,000+ and I just don't have the money right now. It's killing me to see the dog like this: she is completely lame, depressed, and has no quality of life now that she can't take walks or play.

It took a lot of pride to start this fundraiser. It means admitting that I don't have the money, and that's a really hard thing to do. But I want to help her, and so I'm hoping that my friends and family will help me.

If only 1000 people could be moved to give $1, or 500 people could be moved to give $2, I would be able to pay for the surgery and give Lilly a good life again. She's only 2, and has many years ahead of her.

I believe in PAYING IT FORWARD, and if this fundraiser works, I promise to give $1 to 1,000 causes over the next year.

There is a saying: "One grasshopper will not stop a train. But a million grasshoppers will." Please help.
