TEAM JACOB MEACHUM
The family, friends and loved ones of Jacob Meachum are uniting to raise money to help him recover from his traumatic brain injury.
14 year old Jacob Meachum had his whole life ahead of him. On June 3, 2012, Jacob was a passenger on an ATV when it was hit by an SUV and he was thrown from the ATV. The driver of the SUV was drinking and driving, speeding 21 MPH over the limit, had no insurance and driving on a suspended license. The driver is currently in jail serving time for another DUI from March. He has yet to be charged for Jacob's accident. Jacob sustained a traumatic brain injury and was in a comatose state. He has a severe neck fracture that has finally healed after 5 months. Jacob has regained consciousness but his future is still unclear at this time. His parents do have medical insurance but insurance only covers a percentage of the expenses and at some point the insurance will be maxed out. His medical insurance only covers up to 60 days of rehabilitation. Jacob's grandparents spent over $30,000 to add an addition on to their home to accomodate Jacob's medical needs and insurance did not cover. Jacob is currently at Tampa General Rehab full time and his mother is with him 24/7. We are praying and believing that Jacob will make a complete recovery but we all know that Jacob and his family have a very long road ahead. Jacob will need a lifetime of medical care and additional surgeries later on. Jacob's mother has had to leave her job to care for him 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. She has not left his side since June 3rd. We have all of the faith that God is in control of Jacob's medical condition and are truly thankful for everyone that has been a part of praying for him. Jacob Meachum is the son of Joie Floyd-Shell & Joe Shell and Richie & Sue Meachum, nephew of Carrie Floyd-Baker, Steve Baker, Brandi & Stacy Hobby and Michelle Meachum Phenicie & Jason Phenicie. Grandson of Stan & Brenda Hobby, Richard & Phyllis Meachum and Mike & Billie Shell.
