Joe's brother Patrick, wife Regina, and son Patrick have been affected by Hurricane Sandy and we ask for your support to help them rebuild!

After getting his wife Regina and his son "Little" Patrick safely evacuated from their Long Island home in Long Beach, Patrick Harten continued stacking sandbags and moving furniture in hopes of beating Super Storm Sandy. As the storm pushed its way toward Long Island, Patrick put updates on his Facebook so neighbors and loved ones knew what was happening every couple hours. It wasn't long before Patrick watched the water slowly rise on his street only to see his worst nightmare come true. Frantically trying to move the limited number of sandbags that he had to the most critical spots, he finally realized saving his home was impossible. When the water was about six inches high in his newly remodeled kitchen he walked up the stairs with not only the storm beating on his home but an ominous cloud of worry and fear filling his mind. Defeated and hopeless, Patrick laid down on his bed praying that morning would bring new hope. He woke to find that the water had risen almost a foot in his home and had destroyed many of the things they were not able to move upstairs. His entire 1st story of his home was destroyed. He looked around to find that most of the water had now receded out of his home only to leave a thick layer of sand. Patrick was overwhelmed with the thought of what to do next. But he knew he needed to check on neighbors and friends and see how his small community of Long Beach faired. It was devastating the toll this storm took on his community. Pieces of the boardwalk had been torn off and was now lying in the streets, he even passed a boat on a street corner near his home. Him and his family's new normal is something most of us can't comprehend. We don't realize that not only did they loose so much in there home they were without power, heat, plumbing and many things we take for granted for many weeks. They are lucky that Reginas father lives close by and they are staying with him. They do not know how long till they are back in their home but they know it will be awhile. I know for me and my husband living here on the west coast we feel helpless. We wish we could just fly out there and give all that we can to help them and their community rebuild. As we pondered about how we can help we decided to start this fundraiser so that family and friends have an easy way to help where they need it most, with money so that they can rebuild their life and community again. Although they had insurance, as we all know this does not cover everything. They lost a lot. Patrick posted on Facebook saying the hardest part was having to get rid of most of Little Patricks toys because his play room was on the first floor. There is no better time to serve and give unto others than during the holidays. During a time when we are all striving to be more Christ like. Please donate! ANYTHING will help.
