Amanda needs your help so please...

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Amanda Johnson is fighting for her life. On Christmas Eve 2005, Amanda began to feel heavily fatigued and weak. She went to the hospital, and her vitals were off the charts. After testing, she was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a condition that causes scarring in the kidneys. Doctors said a kidney transplant was her only hope for a second chance at life, and her aunt generously donated a kidney to Amanda in 2006. Unfortunately, Amanda went into rejection and now needs a second transplant. She was added to the waiting list in October 2010.

Amanda is very grateful for the years she was given before her body began rejecting the new kidney, but she is eager to finally resume her normal life. She is forced to use a catheter and will need to resume peritoneal dialysis. Her family is constantly worrying about her health, and it is especially hard for Amanda's mother to see her daughter suffer.

Despite the obstacles Amanda has faced, she maintains a positive attitude and dreams of the day she can enjoy biking and swimming again. Above all, she longs for her family to be relieved of the stress and anxiety her health has caused them, both financially and emotionally. But she needs your help.

Unfortunately, Amanda's hope for a new life comes a very high price.

A kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that's only the beginning. Even with health coverage, she faces considerable medical expenses related to her transplant. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month - and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Amanda's condition does not allow her to work, adding to her financial strain.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?

The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Amanda and her family. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with advocacy and fundraising support for 28 years. Your gift - of $25, $50, $100 or more - will enable NFT to provide Amanda with the financial support she desperately needs.
When you make your donation on this page at, your donation goes straight into her NFT Fund Account!

Many, many thanks!!
