The family and friends of Beth Peterson are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against ovarian cancer.

Beth is 55 years young. She met her soul mate, Terry Bergerson, at age 38 and they'll celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary in Jan. 2011. Their family includes 3 cats and 1 dog.

Beth's first career was as a park ranger. After meeting Terry, Beth went through a career change and became a landscape architect. Her areas of specialty are landscaping for wildlife and landscape restoration.

In Sept. 2007, 3 months after starting her perfect job with a public agency, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer (Stage IIIC). At that time, she underwent the traditional medical approach of surgery and intraperitoneal chemo treatments, completing chemo in Feb. 2008. She then returned to a normal life.

However, ovarian cancer has a very high rate of reoccurrence. By Fall 2009, her cancer had returned and it was time to begin treatment again. Since chemo has proven to be ineffective for ovarian cancer and since side effects from chemo almost killed her the first time, she decided to pursue alternative treatment therapies. In Dec. 2009, she attended the Gerson clinic in Mexico at her family's expense (not covered by medical insurance) but unfortunately that therapy protocol didn't work for her. In Sept. 2010, she changed course and is currently under the care of naturopathic physicians in Portland, OR who specialize in alternative cancer treatment. She is getting the best and most effective, non-chemo therapies available. However, chemo is the only available option with insurance coverage, and Beth and her family have again been covering all medical expenses.

For the past year, Beth had to reduce her schedule at work to undergo treatment. However, fighting cancer is a full-time job and in Nov. 2010, Beth had to take a leave of absence to concentrate on her health. This puts an additional strain on her and Terry's financial ability to cover the medical bills and meet daily living expenses.

At this time, medical expenses exceed the family's ability to pay. This fund drive will help her focus on fighting the fight of her life!
