Please help my friend Nava Raj! He has been diagnosed with double kidney failure and desperately needs to fund a transplant. Fast!

I am writing and working on behalf of a good friend of mine who lives in rural Nepal. His name is Nava Raj Khadka and he is 37 years old. I had the good fortune to meet his acquaintance when I stayed with him and his family in Gorkha earlier this year whilst I was teaching in the locality. He is married, with two sons - (12 and 16yrs) both in high school. He has worked as a medical health officer in Gorkha region for the past 15 years, and has helped treat thousands of patients during this time. He earns around £5 a day.

Nava has just recently been diagnosed with double kidney failure and desperately needs a transplant. I don’t need to spell out how difficult it is to arrange an organ transplant in Nepal, let alone fund it. It is difficult enough in the west. But logistics and urgency are not exactly part of the Nepali vocabulary, and so we have been looking abroad for alternatives. The closest and most expedient means to attain treatment is by going to India, but of course this involves an extra cost. Obviously this is an extremely worrying time for his loved ones.

We are trying to raise US $35,000 before the end of September to help pay for a transplant and save his life. We have already raised US $15,000, and now we need the remainder. This should be simple enough using the Giveforward format combined with social networking sites like Facebook and more importantly people who will listen and ACT.

Nava is a kind, selfless individual who has shown huge compassion and generosity through his work and his relationships with others. He is not a rich man, but he always gives what he can. He is well educated, and has only just recently received his Masters qualification. Unfortunately if we can't arrange for a transplant he may not get a chance to employ these skills that he has worked so hard for, or to see his children grow up.

Please give what you can and pass on the message.

Thank you!
