The family and friends of Amanda Johnson are raising funds to purchase an insulin pump to help with her Type 1 diabetes.

Our daughter Amanda was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in January 26, 2009. She has lived with this horrible disease for 3 1/2 years now. This has been a total life changing experience for our whole family. She has had to learn how to count the carbohydrates in everything she eats, get 6 insulin shots a day and prick her finger to check her blood 6-8 times a day. She has been in ICU twice because she got really sick and couldn't fight off an infection. Her blood sugar was over 700 and she had to be transported by ambulance the night before the first day of school last fall. After two days we were happy to learn she would be okay and her blood sugar levels were back to normal. We are thankful to have a great doctor's office and have her diabetes under control with insulin. This disease is very costly even with insurance.
We are raising money through several different fundraisers to get Amanda an insulin pump. This pump cost $5,000 and the supplies each month range from
$200.00-300.00 dollars. This pump is essential to her health. It will help us regulate her blood sugar levels much better and she will only get one needle stick every 2-3 days instead of 6 shots a day. DIABETES never gets a vacation...but this pump can give us some HOPE and a tremendous amount of help. We are grateful for any donation. We are hopeful that we will be able to provide our daughter with the pump very soon :)
