Help my uncle overcome one of the toughest adversities he's yet to face; prostate cancer. With your help we can win this fight!

A great man, my uncle, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer; and right before he was set to get married.

Richard Armenta is one of the greatest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and not only that but the privilege to call him family. He is the most free spirited person I have ever met, and such an inspiration. He has always kept a positive attitude no matter what he may face. As each day progresses he still never ceases to amaze me in how much he's always grown as a person. He volunteers at his church and is always working to help the less fortunate. On top of this he works full time and is a full time family man. He has a beautiful daughter Dakota, who has stayed strong through thick and thin. These two have always been the dynamic duo, and you are certain to have an astounding time when they're around. He has just married another wonderful person into our family, and her three amazing boys. Now he begins an entirely new journey in life, building a family and molding them to be upstanding humans.

Though he was aware of the illness all too soon before the wedding, he couldn't find it in his over sized heart to put off marrying the love of his life. The wedding prevailed and he followed through with the planned honeymoon. In his eyes keeping what was essentially a promise to his soon to be wife was more important than anything else. I got the call from him a week or so after his return from the honeymoon that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Richie has always been one of the only extended family members to stick by me, no matter what adversities I faced in life. He opened his home to me in an effort to get me away from the dead end that was my life. After moving in with him until I could get on my feet I began to grow and learn so much about myself. I owe a major part of where I am today and how far I have come to my uncle.

He is just starting a new family, and to him this is much higher priority to focus on than having his loved ones make sacrifices so he can have his surgery. He is saving to pay for this, while this is cancer is in earlier stages it's still cancer; and I don't know what I would do with out him around. I can only imagine how his daughter, wife, and step sons feel. I am just a college student and can't offer much financially to assist him, but I am willing to do what ever in my power to lessen the time frame in which it takes for him to have his surgery.

It's no shave November, as I am usually clean cut this is very out of my norm. I will be growing my beard all month to raise awareness and will be seeking sponsors to help in raising money for this cause.

UPDATE as of 11/19/12:
My uncle was extremely surprised to see what I had done for him with this website, and to everyone who has donated your kindness has only helped make this so much better!!! I am very greatful for everyone who has helped us out to this point. We are getting much closer to our goal, and would appreciate any assistance in helping reach it! Richie is keeping in great spirits and seeing him staying positive keeps me looking up as well.

No Shave November has been a huge success with many people asking me about my beard it gives an opportunity to raise awareness. The month is coming closer to an end and any help to get us through this month and into the holiday month would be amazing! Please feel free to reach out to me for any questions that you might have, I would be more than welcome to speak to you.

Look up and not down; look forward and not back; look out and not in; and lend a hand.
