Chelsea Gary is raising money for a six month volunteer trip to help the orphans and adults at New Day Foster Home in Beijing, China.

The time is now. As most of you know, Brian and I have two adopted children. Our son, Yonggi, age 13, is from South Korea, and our daughter, Anaya, age 11, is from China. These two precious gifts from God have not only changed us for the better and completed our family, but they have also made us keenly aware of the needs of the world's orphaned children.

It would be wonderful to provide families for all orphans, but of course this is not possible. It would be fantastic to attend to the medical needs of all orphans born with health problems, but again, this is also not possible. What we can do, though, is pool our resources and send who we can to help as many as possible. This is what God is talking about in James 1:27 where He says, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

I have wanted, for years, to take our two youngest kids to China for an extended stay in a village where we can help orphans and widows. As God has planned it, a friend of mine, whom I met about 11 years ago through adopting Anaya, is a long term volunteer at a foster home just outside of Beijing called New Day.

New Day is a 14 year old organization providing foster homes and medical care to special needs orphans from all across China, educational training and jobs, and outreach programs to the poor and elderly in the community. New Day depends on both permanent staff and many volunteers for the varied positions in their Foster Home and Learning Center. The volunteer positions are funded by donors like you, who all play a part in helping volunteers help the children and adults who benefit from New Day. Please see more information about New Day here:  Be sure to click on “Children’s Amazing Stories” (look down the righthand side for the link) to read about some of the miraculous kids who have benefitted from New Day.

If you have read this far you are probably assuming that I am going to ask you for money. While financial support is definitely needed, there are other ways you can help if you aren’t able to donate money at this time. I am planning for the kids and I to go to China to be “feet on the ground” help for six months. Not everyone can pick up and move to China for six months but we can. What we lack in the equation is the money to do so. If you can give ANY amount, it is GREATLY appreciated. If you can pray for us, and for all of the needs and programs at New Day, that would be fantastic. If you can share this information with your friends, family, church, Bible study group, company you work for…ANYONE you think might be interested in helping orphans, widows, and the disadvantaged, that would be a huge blessing.
