When hearts filled with prayer band together miracles DO happen- Heart 2 Heart for Minette Fernandez!

Minette Ku'upoli Fernandez, from Anahola, Kaua'i, is a long-time teacher (23 years!) at Kaimuki Middle School and the single mother of two (Ryne Kupono Haitsuka who is in his final year of college and Reis Kilohana Haitsuka who will soon start). On the last day of school in May, 2014 she had a seizure caused by heart failure which necessitated a life-saving defibrillator be inserted. Because she had aspirated during her seizure, she got pneumonia and her recovery was made more difficult.

As she slowly recovered, however, Minette was fully looking forward to the start of a new school year in July, 2014. When she returned to her Cardiologist for a check-up she found out that was not to be.

Minette learned the damage to her heart is so severe that she wasn't cleared to return to work (even though she had been back setting up her classroom for 3 days) and she will need to go to the mainland to be evaluated by heart specialists for possible inclusion on a heart transplant list. There are no transplant facilities in Hawai'i and she has chosen to go to Ohio as her older brother Keoki lives there with his family and can care for her (Praise God for that blessing!). Minette is shocked about the news, and feeling a bit overwhelmed, but remaining positive.

Minette is making all the necessary arrangements to go in mid-August and doesn't know how long she will be there. The results of her tests will determine the length of her stay.

We will update you as she finalizes her plans to leave and as the results of her tests come in. For now, please spread the word! Your prayers are greatly needed and appreciated! If you can donate - any amount - that, too, will be greatly appreciated.

Minette's Hawaiian name "Ku'upoli" means "close to my heart" and it's our hope that you will keep Minette and her 'Ohana close to yours!

Mahalo nui loa!
