We're raising money for Eric Kurvink and his family to help him get through his upcoming surgery.

Eric was diagnosed with a mass near his cerebellum and brain stem on October 22nd after a skate boarding injury. He's met with a team of the country's smartest doctors at Seattle Children's Hospital and he's scheduled for surgery on December 18. Kristin is going to take a leave of absence from work to stay at his side and see him through the recovery and rehabilitation. Eric's family needs our support to help make this possible.

As you can imagine, this situation is stressful enough without having to worry about paying the bills, putting food on the table, and incidental medical expenses. Many of you may be aware that the family has dealt with a number of serious medical problems over the past couple years and each time they've pulled together to persevere, but this time they really could use some help.

Eric has been an incredibly brave kid through this and his example inspires us all. He is more worried about how others around him are dealing with this crisis, than he is about himself. He's picked up on everyone's concern and as the class clown with a big heart, he uses humor to relieve the tension, at one point asking if he can "keep the tumor after the surgery to take it home and blow it up." More than anything, Eric wants to get back to being a normal kid. His main goals after surgery are getting back to his friends and skateboarding.

If you know Kristin like I do, you know she is someone who has overcome a ton of adversity in her life and has a heart so big, she gives nothing less than 100% of her love and compassion for everyone around her, at home and at work. We know that taking the time to be at her son's side 24/7 will make all the difference, but she needs our help.

Eric's family needs the assistance to help defray the costs of seeing him through this surgery. Namely, the cost of Kristin taking a leave of absence from work, the cost of transportation to and from the hospital, the cost of temporary housing near Children's Hospital, and generally preventing the Kurvinks from falling too far behind on bills during this difficult time, when they need to be focused solely on Eric's well being.

As the holidays approach, please consider making a difference to a very deserving family. We can all do our part and every little bit helps.
