Little Hannah Faith's Story

My daughter, Hannah Faith Ortega, was born November 5, 2010. 6lbs 9.3oz Hannah was born a normal healthy baby. Everytime that I would take her to the doctor for her "well-child" check-ups she wasn't gaining weight the way she should. We put that to her dad's family who is small...not tall and just small (I love them though). At that time it was also decided that Hannah had severe acid reflux since she throws up a lot. Zantac was started as well as a special formula for babies with reflux.
After 11 months of not growing properly, the doctor referred her to a growth and nutrition specialists at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, Colorado.
Aurora is approximently 6 hours away from home. That means usually we go up and stay the nite before the appointments and the day of. The fuel costs is hard. Also, since she sees her specialists on Tuesday that requires me to miss no less than two days of work. Most times when I bring her here I miss a whole week worth of work.
The first visit to the specialist they just impelmented some new ideas and new ways of feeding her to try and get more calories. The doctor also gave me a special powdered that is just calories to add to what she is eating to "sneak in" extra calories in her diet.
She also saw allergy doctors to make sure that she didn't have allergies to certain foods, as well as getting a swallow study done. Everything came back normal on this visit.
Then at the end of November we came back for her follow-up and she had gained some weight, but not enough. We were happy with an increase of weight though. The specialists decidedn to get a stool sample at this time, "just for the heck of it". We were told that we would only be contacted if something is wrong. Well, a week later we recieved a phone saying there is excessive fats in her stool. This meant that Hannah is not accepting any fat at all. You need some fat to grow.
That led us to where we are at today, our 3rd trip to Children's Hospital. She received a GI and upper bowel study and a sweat test (tests for cystic fibrosis). We are currently awaiting results for these tests.
Being away from home is hard on us, the money from this fundraiser will help pay for fuel to get Hannah to the doctors as well as pay any basic expenses. Thank you.
